Tsukumogami—spirits or "marebito" can take physical form and inhabit objects that have been around for a very long time. Hyouma Kunato hates them since one stole away something that was extremely valuable to him, despite the fact that he is a member of the Saenome clan, which is in charge of sending them back to their own world in a peaceful manner. Hyouma's grandfather sends him to live with Botan Nagatsuki, a girl who is the leader of six "friendly" tsukumogami and shares a home with them, in an effort to rid him of this hatred.
