Ryuunosuke Ibuki is beaten and abandoned, stripped of all he owns. Seeing his plight, a guy called Kamo Serizawa gives him a second opportunity and hires him as his personal assistant. Ibuki appears to be immune to sadness, but his new lifestyle reduces him to the status of a dog to one of Kyoto's most powerful men. Meanwhile, with ronin attacks on the general populace on the rise, the shogunate sent the Roshigumi to Kyoto to strike for peace. The Roshigumi, commanded by the noble yet soft-spoken Isami Kondou, is made up of strong and talented samurai but lacks any important political ties to acquire a foothold in the metropolis ravaged by crime.
